Open-access training modules for the public
The LIFE TraiN2K project will gradually expand its e-learning platform to also include open-access modules for the general public. Here people with a passion for the environment will be able to access modules on: the Natura 2000 network, monitoring of species and habitats of European importance, management of protected areas, environmental restoration strategies as well as surveillance and control of protected areas.
The aim of these courses is to raise public awareness on key issues relating to the management of Natura 2000 sites and about biodiversity in general, in support of the European Union’s Biodiversity Strategy. Once a user is registered, she/he can access the training modules on-line, which focus on the core topics of the TraiN2K project.
The key themes will include:
An introduction to the principles, objectives, and functioning of the European Natura 2000 Network, to understand how monitoring, European regulations, and local management intertwine.
An overview of the strategies and measures that can restore degraded habitats back to a favourable conservation status, in line with the targets of the European Nature Restoration Law.
Methods and approaches used to monitor and assess the conservation status of habitats and species of European importance, with a focus on the responsibilities of managers, regional bodies and the Ministry of the Environment.
A look at the legal and operational aspects of environmental surveillance, the technologies supporting territorial control, and the main challenges in protecting natural areas, including poaching and invasive alien species.
