Open-access training modules for the public
As part of the European LIFE TraiN2K project, our platform will gradually be expanded to include open-access e-learning modules, designed for students, professionals, owners of protected areas and members of the public with a passion for environmental conservation.
The aim is to increase the appeal and raise public awareness of key issues relating to the management of Natura 2000 sites and terrestrial biodiversity, in support of the European Union’s conservation objectives. Through short training modules focusing on the core themes of the TraiN2K project, registered users will be able to gain a solid introductory overview of ecological monitoring systems, environmental restoration strategies and regulatory compliance and monitoring practices, alongside the cross-cutting skills associated with these areas.
The key themes will include:
An introduction to the principles, objectives, and functioning of the Natura 2000 Network, to understand how science, European regulation, and territorial management intertwine.
An overview of the strategies and measures used to bring degraded habitats back to a favourable conservation status, in line with the targets of the Nature Restoration Law, applied to different natural environments.
Content dedicated to the tools and approaches used to plan, monitor, and assess the conservation status of habitats and species, with a focus on the relationships between managing bodies, scientific research, and local communities.
A path through the legal and operational aspects of environmental surveillance, the technologies supporting territorial control, and the main challenges in protecting natural areas, including the containment of invasive alien species.
